Vacuum cleaners can be loud and annoying, especially when you’re trying to focus on something else while the vacuum cleaner is running.
However, there is a way to soundproof your vacuum cleaner, and in this post, I’m going to reveal eight things you can do to soundproof your vacuum cleaner.
Some things may work better than others, but feel free to try any of the options listed down below.I believe that trying things out first will help you make the decision of which option works best, so don’t be afraid to test out different option to see which one works best for you.
Soundproofing a vacuum cleaner may not be as hard as you might think. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy because it may be hard for some people, and easy for others. However, it is actually very simple once you understand how to do it.
You may want to have a friend or family member help you to soundproof your vacuum, so the job gets done fast and easy.
If you want to learn how to soundproof your vacuum cleaner, keep reading.
Here are the 8 things you can do to soundproof your vacuum cleaner.
1. Cover up the air outlet
The first option on the list is to cover up the air outlet. You may find that most of your sound is coming from the air outlet, so you may want to consider covering it up.
This sounds pretty dangerous, right? I mean covering up the air outlet will likely cause the vacuum cleaner to overheat.
However, there is a way to cover it up without the vacuum becoming overheat. The way to do this is to use a piece of cloth, and cut little strips so the air can pass through.
By doing it this way, the cloth will help keep the sound out, and you won’t risk the vacuum becoming overheated due to the air not being able to pass through.
This is probably the easiest option on this list, but it will take a little bit of work cutting the cloth, and actually putting the cloth on the air outlet.
However, you should be able to get this done in a matter of a few minutes.
I do advice you to check the vacuum from time to time to see if it becomes hot. If it does, you can always remove the cloth that’s on the vacuum cleaner.
However, your vacuum should be fine, and you shouldn’t have to worry too much about your vacuum becoming overheated.
Let’s move onto option three which is unclogging the vacuum cleaner.
2. Unclog your vacuum cleaner
The second option is to unclog your vacuum cleaner. Unclogging the vacuum cleaner may seem difficult, but it really isn’t once you know how to do it.
The way to unclog your vacuum is to remove any objects that are stick in your vacuum.
You may thing that your vacuum is not running properly, but that may just be because it is all clogged up with objects that just won’t suck up in the vacuum.
This could very likely damage your vacuum as well, so make sure to check regularly to see if there are any objects stuck in your vacuum cleaner.
You may need some help unclogging your vacuum. If you can’t get the object out yourself, I recommend having a professional help you unlock your vacuum.
However, this is the only time I’m recommending a professional for soundproofing anything. Everything else you can do pretty much yourself.
The reason I don’t recommend a professional for anything else I mentioned in this blog is because all the stuff I mentioned is doable, and doing it yourself will save you lots of money that you could use for something else other than soundproofing.
Let’s move onto option three which is cleaning out the filter in your vacuum.
3. Clean the filter
The third option to soundproof your vacuum is to clean the filter.
Now, you should be cleaning the filter regularly, or whenever you have vacuumed a few times.
However, an unclean filter maybe to blame for the excessive sound of your vacuum.
Sometimes too much dirt in the vacuum can make the vacuum louder, it can also make it quieter depending on the type of vacuum you have.
Whatever type of vacuum you have, your vacuum maybe louder due to an unclean filter, so make sure to clean out your filter and then see if the sound improves or not.
If the sound doesn’t improve, then it is very likely that the filter wasn’t an issue, and you may need to test out other options to soundproof your vacuum.
The next option is to inspect the brush bearings to see if anything is broken.
4. Inspect the brush bearings to see if anything is broken
The fourth option is to inspect the brush bearings to see if anything in there is broken. Most people assume that the entire vacuum is out of shape when this happens, and they end up wasting money on a new vacuum.
I’m not saying a new vacuum is a waste of money, but it is if you can fix the problem in your old vacuum.
Before you decide to get a new vacuum, check the brush bearings to see if they are broken, because they may well be broken.
The good news is they’re fixable, and you shouldn’t have any issue fixing the brush bearings.
If your vacuum is making a weird sound, your brush bearings maybe to blame.
Try fixing your brush bearings, and test out the sound of your vacuum. If you notice a difference in sound, then it was most likely your brush bearings, if you notice no difference, then your brush bearings most likely weren’t the issue.
The next option is to fix or replace the fan in the vacuum.
5. Fix or replace the fan in the vacuum
The fifth option is to fix or replace the fan in the vacuum. The fan in the vacuum maybe causing your vacuum to be louder than usual.
If that’s the case, go inside your vacuum, and fix o replace the fan in the vacuum
You can get a new fan for your vacuum super cheap on sites like Amazon, or stores like Lowes, Home Depot, or Walmart.
You can just get the fan separately for super cheap, and you don’t have to worry about getting a new vacuum cleaner.
If your vacuum is making a weird noise, then the fan maybe to blame.
You can also try fixing your fan, but it is likely that you won’t be able to since it’s kind of impossible to fix a fan. The easiest route to go is to just buy a new fan.
You should notice a difference in sound later on once the new fan is installed.
The next option is to test out the noise of the vacuum cleaner to see if any of these options worked.
6. Test out the noise of the vacuum cleaner
If you tried anyone of these options, you want to test out the noise of your vacuum cleaner to see if the option you chose to do worked.
I believe I mentioned this before, but remember to test out the noise so you know if the option worked or not.
If you notice a huge difference in sound, then it is likely that the option you chose to do worked.
The next option on the list is to find out if anything else needs done in the vacuum cleaner.
7. Find out if anything else needs done in the vacuum cleaner
If you feel you did not improve the sound very much doing one or a few of these options, you may want to consider finding out if anything else needs done to your vacuum cleaner.
There may be something that I didn’t cover in this post that’s wrong with your vacuum cleaner, but I believe I hit all of the main things your vacuum cleaner has, and that you don’t need to do anything else beyond this point.
If none of the options worked for you, you may want to look at option eight.
8. Consider purchasing a new vacuum cleaner
The eighth option is to consider purchasing a new vacuum cleaner. If none of the options worked for you, you may decide to purchase a new vacuum cleaner which is also a good option if you don’t want to go through the hassle of trying to figure out what is wrong with your vacuum cleaner.
Here is a link to my favorite type of vacuum cleaner if your interested in purchasing it.
Conclusion
Soundproofing a vacuum cleaner can be difficult, especially if you don’t know what you’re getting yourself into. However, anyone can do it if they follow the directions, and they learn how to do it. Soundproofing a vacuum, or really anything is not easy, and it requires that you follow the steps so you can successfully soundproof your vacuum cleaner.
