Is your bedroom too loud?
Are you having trouble sleeping at night due to your bedroom being such a loud place?
Are you having trouble sleeping due to the road noise outside?
Whatever it is that’s causing sound in your bedroom, I’m going to show you how to fix it!
So, how do you soundproof a bedroom yourself?
Soundproofing a bedroom, or really anything can be difficult if you don’t know what you’re doing.
However, it is very simple, and by doing this yourself, your going to be saving a ton of money.
It can cost thousands of dollars to hire a professional to soundproof your bedroom. By doing it yourself, it can cost you as little as a couple hundred bucks.
Now I know I mentioned the cost in my other articles, but I want you to get the idea that you can save a lot of money, and there is absolutely no need to hire a professional to soundproof your bedroom.
It will cost you less money to buy the material that you need in order to soundproof the room, while it can cost you more money to hire a professional.
Now I do understand that there are pros and cons to both parts of the job. But wouldn’t you rather take that money you were going to spend on a professional, and just use it to go on a nice vacation, or spend it on a night out to celebrate what you’ve done to soundproof your bedroom? I know I would.
Throughout this post, I’m going to give you a step by step formula that you can follow to soundproof your bedroom.
Step 1: Inspect your bedroom before soundproofing
Before you soundproof your bedroom, it is best to get your bedroom inspected before you soundproof it.
This is very important because getting your bedroom inspected will allow you to find any unnecessary holes in your ceiling, or walls.
As your inspecting your bedroom, make sure to look everywhere and make sure everything looks good. If everything isn’t how it should be, then there could be further problems down the way.
After you inspect everything, make sure to remove the furniture in your bedroom, so you can soundproof your bedroom without any furniture being in the way.
You don’t have to move the furniture completely out of your bedroom, but move it where you won’t be working on soundproofing.
This can be in the middle of the room, or outside of the room.
Once you’ve removed your furniture, inspect it one more time. Not to mention that I recommend you inspect your bedroom after you remove the furniture, because it can be a little difficult to inspect your bedroom when you have furniture in there.
If necessary, have a friend help you move the furniture. They always say many hands make light work, so taking advantage of it will make the situation a lot less tiring.
It is also a good idea to have both you and your friend inspect the bedroom. Your friend may see something you don’t see, or you may see something your friend doesn’t see.
hat I’m saying is you and your friend will get the job done quicker.
After you have removed the furniture, and inspected your bedroom, you can now decide how you want to soundproof your bedroom.
Step 2: Decide on how you want to soundproof your bedroom
The next step is to decide how you want to soundproof your bedroom.
There are many ways to soundproof your bedroom, but it can be hard to make a decision on how you want to soundproof it.
Down below, I’m going to list all of the ways you can soundproof your bedroom, and I’m also going to describe each way the best I can so you can get a good idea on how you want to soundproof your bedroom.
Place soundproof foam on your walls
The first way you can soundproof your bedroom is to place soundproof foam on your walls. This can either make your bedroom look nice, or ugly.
You may think it will look ugly, but you may be surprised to see how nice it will look in your bedroom. It will also keep the sound out of your bedroom, and help you to sleep more calmly.
Now, of course there are other ways you can soundproof your bedroom.
In fact, you can do all of these ways if you wanted to get the best result.
By the way, I recommend you do all of these ways if you want to make the most out of reading this article.
Hang up soundproof curtains, or blankets
Another way you can soundproof your bedroom is by simply hanging up soundproof curtains or blankets.
I recommend you do soundproof curtains over blankets, since they are better quality, and it just makes more sense to hang curtains rather than blankets.
If you don’t have one already, you can purchase a curtain rod to hang your soundproof curtains on. You can get it at your local stores, or you can buy it online.
If I were you, I wouldn’t worry about soundproof blankets, just worry about getting soundproof curtains.
Now there is nothing wrong to experiment, but to save you money, just worry about the soundproof curtains.
Replace your door
Another way to soundproof your bedroom is to just replace your door with a heavier door. It is known that heavier doors are sound absorbent, and they have a better chance of keeping the sound out of your bedroom.
You can find these doors on sites like Amazon, Lowes, or Home Depot.
Make sure you gather as much information on the type of door you’re getting.
You want to make sure it’s sound absorbent, and it has a good reputation.
Place weather stripping on the inside of your door
The last option on this list is to place weather stripping on the inside of your existing door.
If you don’t feel like replacing your old door, you can always place weather stripping on it, and that should help keep the sound out of your bedroom pretty good.
Step 3: Test out different ways to see what is better
After you’ve decided how you want to soundproof your bedroom, it doesn’t hurt to test out different ways.
Who knows, you may like one way better than the other, so I recommend you test out all of the ways I listed above.
I even recommend you do all of these ways, which will lead to the best result.
You’ll likely won’t be able to hear much if you do all of the ways listed above, which is great news for when you’re trying to sleep.
Again, I know how frustrating it can be to hear noise while you’re trying to sleep, and my goal is to help you solve that problem.
I can tell you this, if you test out everything, you may decide to do every one of those. However, if you only decide to do one to two ways, you’ll improve the sound a lot, and it is still likely that you won’t hear much.
After you test out everything and decide on a soundproofing method, you can now move onto step four.
Step 4: Continue to monitor the sound
After you have decided on a soundproofing method, whether your trying just one or all of the methods, I recommend you monitor the sound in your bedroom.
After doing all of that work soundproofing your bedroom, you don’t want to hear anything, so make sure to at least monitor the sound in your bedroom every once in a while.
If you don’t hear anything after a while, then you most likely soundproofed your bedroom correctly.
Step 5: Make the final decision on how you want to soundproof your bedroom
You’ve probably already made this decision, but step five is when you make the FINAL decision for how you want to soundproof your bedroom.
You see, after monitoring the sound all that time, you may be still undecided as to how you want to soundproof your home.
You can always remove the work that you’ve done, and soundproof it a new way, but if you want to stop messing with it, and get a good night’s rest, then make a decision to how you want to soundproof your bedroom.
Conclusion
Soundproofing a bedroom can be tough, especially when you have no one helping you do it.
However, the good news is it’s totally worth it because you’ll finally have the opportunity to get a good night’s rest without hearing all of that excess noise.
