There are many reasons why you would want to soundproof your dog crate. When your dog is in the crate, he or she may feel frightened by noises outside the crate.
Noises like thunderstorms can really startle your dog, and cause your dog to panic. If he or she is in a soundproof crate, then they won’t be able to hear the outside noise.
There are ways to soundproof your dog crate, I’m going to give you a step by step formula that will help you soundproof your dog crate.
Soundproofing your dog crate will allow your dog to not feel afraid when there is a thunderstorm, or any sort of loud noise, and whenever something like that occurs, you can put the dog in the crate, and then he or she won’t hear anything.
You can easily soundproof your dog crate yourself without hiring a professional.
In my last posts, I mentioned it was cheaper to soundproof something yourself, rather than hiring a professional to do it.Same goes with the dog crate. You can soundproof your dog crate for as little as a hundred dollars, and maybe even cheaper than that.
If you’re ready to take action, and help your dog to feel safe when there is a noise he or she doesn’t like, follow the step by step formula below.
Step 1: Use a crate cover
The first step is to use a crate cover. Using a crate cover will help you keep the sound out of the crate. However, it won’t completely block the sound out. Unless your dog is hard of hearing, he or she may still hear the noise outside his or her crate.
A crate cover is still a good alternative for keeping the sound out of your crate. If you use two crate covers, it will keep the sound out even more.
Now were starting to think. What if you used three or four crate covers, that may very well get the job done, but I would still look at the other steps listed down below.
It is your choice, it you want to settle with a crate cover, then that is perfectly okay!
If you want to see what the other options are besides a crate cover, keep skimming through this post to see what the other options are.
You can also use more than one of these options. You don’t have to limit yourself to just one of these options.
I have the options listed as steps, but you don’t have to follow all the steps in order to successful soundproof your dog crate.
However, I recommend you do follow the steps if you don’t want to risk making a mistake soundproofing your dog crate.
If your following all the steps, let’s move onto step two which is placing acoustic foam panels inside of the crate.
Step 2: Place acoustic foam panels on the inside of the crate
The second step is to place acoustic foam panels on the inside of the crate. This will keep the sound out even more, and your dog will be less likely the hear the noises outside of its crate.
Placing acoustic foam panels may work better than crate covers, but you can use both if you want to.
Using both will definitely keep the sound out of the crate, and if you use multiple crate covers, and the acoustic foam panels, then that will make a big difference.
However, if you prefer not to do that, then that is perfectly okay. Either one will work just as good.
It may seem difficult to place acoustic foam panels in a crate, but it’s really not, and there are tons of YouTube videos that will show you how to place acoustic foam panels inside of a dog crate.
One of the reasons you may think it’s difficult is because the crate is a small space, and you may not be able to get inside the crate, but since the crate is so small, it won’t take much just to place acoustic foam panels inside of a small crate.
Let’s move onto step three.
Step 3: Consider soundproofing an entire room for your dog
You may also want to consider soundproofing an entire room for your dog, that way he or she doesn’t have to be confined to their crate.
You of course you want to inspect the room first to see if there are any cracks or holes in the ceiling or walls, and if there are, fill them in with insulation, or place drywall over them.
You also want to make sure to soundproof your doors. Place weather stripping on the inside of your doors, and that should keep the sound out of the room almost completely.
If you want to keep it simple, I don’t recommend you use this step. My goal for this post is to help you keep things as simple as possible, so if you want to skip this step, then that is also perfectly okay. Soundproofing an entire room for you dog though will allow your dog to have more space, and to be able to enjoy a quiet room without having to be crammed into a crate.
You may want to consider this option. You may think this is too much work, but it will be worth it in the end for you and your dog.
I know for a fact that your dog doesn’t appreciate being in the crate, and your dog will very much appreciate having a soundproof room without being confined in a crate just to escape the noise he or she does not like.
You do whatever you want to do, I’m just making suggestions that will make you and your dog more comfortable.
In step four, I’m going to talk about monitoring your dog to see if he or she still hears the noises.
Step 4: Monitor your dog to see if he or she still hears the noises
After you have soundproofed the crate, or the room, make sure to continue to monitor your dog to see if he or she still hears the noises.
Monitoring your dog will allow you to find out whether or not the soundproofing worked or not.
If your dog shows no reaction whenever there’s a noise he or she does not like, then you’ve likely soundproofed the room or crate successfully.
Conclusion
Soundproofing a dog crate is very simple. It is silly to have a professional soundproof the crate for you, and it will be super cheap to do it yourself.
